SUMMER 2025 DESIGN BUILD STUDIO
The LTU Design Build course simulated real-world architectural practice through a hands-on, collaborative workflow. Sixty students began in small teams developing schematic concepts, then progressively merged into larger groups to refine proposals. By mid-semester, the class was working in two teams of thirty, each producing a full design proposal for the Bailey Park Neighborhood Development Corporation. After presenting to the client, one project was selected for further development. In week nine, all students regrouped on campus and were assigned to specialized teams—such as detailing, documentation, presentation, and visualization—to collectively advance and prepare the chosen design for real-world execution.
Liz studies how design education becomes a tool for shaping development and civic structures. The LTU Design Build studio is a contemporary example of architectural pedagogy operating exactly in that space—training students to participate in community-centered development systems.
